Male Breast Reduction

Gynecomastia is a very common problem among men. Excess male breast tissue often develops during puberty but other causes include aging, medications, and health conditions that affect hormones. For some males, however, the excess breast tissue does not dissipate after puberty and it becomes permanent.

Dr. Gottenger’s surgical approaches include liposuction for cases where gynecomastia is primarily the result of excess fatty tissue, excision where glandular breast tissue or excess skin must be removed to correct gynecomastia or a combination of liposuction & excision techniques.

In severe cases of gynecomastia, the weight of excess breast tissue may cause the breasts to sag and stretch the areola. In these cases the position and size of the areola can be surgically improved and excess skin may be reduced.

Plastic surgery to correct gynecomastia is technically called reduction mammaplasty.

Are my results permanent?

In many cases, the results are permanent. However, if the gynecomastia was caused by the use of prescription medications, drugs (including anabolic steroids) or weight gain, use of those substances or gaining weight could cause the gynecomastia to re-develop.
